This app for iPhone or iPad can follow your husband, wife, children and even your friends on sites like Facebook FB, Twitter , Instagram, Google Contacts  and LinkedIn. Most social contacts are jumbled and split up across multiple devices, platforms and apps, but this app collects them in one place, says Ryan Allis, Chairman and Co-founder of the app. “Your Connect map has hundreds of your friends on it the first time you use the app,” Allis says. Unlike similar apps like Foursquare, it doesn’t use virtual check-ins, which can prompt users to activate their location settings (many people don’t realise that when they turn on location settings on their phone, location information can be embedded in shared photographs and status updates too). What’s more, the other person doesn’t need to have Connect installed or to accept an invitation from the app.

 Find My Friends

Find My Friends for iPhone and Android allows you to keep up to speed on when your spouse leaves work, your child leaves school or even when a visiting friend arrives at the airport. “Friends who share their locations with you appear on a map so you can quickly see where they are and what they’re up to,” according to the app’s official site. The app syncs with phone contacts and maps on the iPhone. Users can also select what other Find My Friends users they want to interact with on their network. Not to be confused with Find My iPhone (free on iOS), which will give the location of a lost or stolen phone via Apple Maps on a map and also works for iPod, iPad Touch.

Some weeks ago, an online lynch mob went for the head of the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, after he had shared his opinions on marriage at a ministers’ conference in his church. Adeboye, in reality, did not say anything dissimilar to what most parental figures of his generation would have if asked to comment in a similar situation. The triviality of his suggestions, however, did not stem the flow of outrage against him. For one, Adeboye is a public figure and a rather influential one whose opinion on every issue matters because they are not confined to the precinct of his church.

While I do not see much value in the manner the man was virulently castigated for holding on to his traditional cultural values, I however think the cleric needs to be told by those around him that the times are changing and his sermons need to be updated to reflect the reality of the real world people now live in. An insistence on rigid gender roles even as the ground beneath our feet is shifting is one of the ways the society holds back everyone, male and female. No gender was born to perform domesticity and none is inherently enterprising either, these are values taught by the society.

Mother solicited men to rape 10-year-old daughter

The mother of a 10-year-old girl killed last month in a gruesome crime that shocked the United States told police that she had solicited men to rape her daughter, according to reports.

Victoria Martens’ dismembered body was found in her home in the western state of New Mexico in August after police were called to the scene.

Officials said that Martens, who was killed hours before her 10th birthday party, had been given methamphetamine and was sexually assaulted, stabbed, strangled and dismembered.

Her mother Michelle Martens, Fabian Gonzales as well as Gonzales’s cousin, Jessica Kelley, have been charged in connection with her murder.

Beauty queen empowers women

The reigning Miss Africa USA 2016, Frances Udukwu, has unveiled her pet project called The Lead Girl Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, which aims at empowering women and girls from the age of 18.

She told Saturday Beats that women empowerment is a smart initiative because it will give them financial independence to enable them to make choices, drive growth and inspire their families and communities as a whole.

The beauty queen added that her goal is to utilise her platform as the reigning Miss Africa USA to empower young women to achieve their dreams knowing that an empowered woman is a blessing to an empowered and inspired community.

During the week, star actress, Rita Dominic, had a Facebook live chat with her fans where she addressed various issues about her life ranging from her career to her love life. Interestingly, the actress who hardly speaks about her relationship told her fans that she was formerly in a relationship with someone in Germany. She also added that she loves babies and is working toward making one. With that, people got talking but what made tongues wag the most was when she posted the picture of Ayoola, the 2012 Project Fame winner, on her Instagram page.

Most of the commentators on her wall were quick to join the dotted line and jumped into conclusion that he probably is the new man in her life. When Saturday Beats reached out to the young man, Ayoola simply said that he had not seen the post but described the actress as someone he really admires.

He said, “I like to keep my private life private but if there is anything, I would let you know. I have not even seen the post but I would check. Rita Dominic is fantastic at what she does and I admire her. I have looked up to her for a very long time. So if Genevieve posts a picture of you on her Instagram page, does it mean that you guys are dating? It could be either of two possibilities which is; you are either dating or not. I am a very private person. Whoever I am dating or not dating, when I feel comfortable to talk about it, I would let you know. I have opened up in the past when I was single and when I was dating but now, I want to keep my private life private.”

Madonna, Guy Ritchie settle child custody dispute

Singer Madonna and her ex-husband, Director Guy Ritchie, have settled a custody dispute over their 16-year-old son Rocco, a court official in New York said.

It was not immediately announced with which parent the teenager would live.

Madonna, 58, and Ritchie, 47, had been in a legal battle over their son since December when the teenager ignored a court order to fly back from Ritchie’s London home to live with his mother in New York.

The “Material Girl” singer, who concluded her worldwide “Rebel Heart” tour in March, and Ritchie, director of 2009 film “Sherlock Holmes,” married in 2000.

Officers of the Anambra police command have reportedly arrested over 20 men for various crimes related to illegal tax collection.

A group of about 20 men have been arrested over suspicions of acting in the capacity of tax collectors without proper authorisation.

The Ocha Brigade teamed with joint task force in Anambra state, stormed Agulu, Ekwulobia, Uga on Monday, September 12, in the fight to put an end to illegal tax collection.

Varsity student defrauds seven ladies on Facebook

The police in Lagos State have arrested a 26-year-old undergraduate, Ademola Adebayo, for allegedly defrauding seven ladies he met on Facebook.

Our correspondent learnt that Adebayo, a 400-Level student of Computer Science, allegedly lured the ladies by uploading some rich pictures on Facebook, and asking his victims to meet him at a location, usually a hotel on the pretext that he had deals for them.

It was gathered that when the ladies showed up at the agreed location, the suspect would dispose them of their phones and other valuables.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, in his Eid-el-Kabir message on Monday said armed herdsmen perpetrating violence in the country were foreign terrorists.

The Eid prayer was attended by Second Republic President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari; Governor Aminu Tambuwal; his deputy, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu; and Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, among other dignitaries.

He said,  “All those so-called Fulani herdsmen, moving with guns, causing violence, fighting with farmers are not Nigerians.

“These are foreigners coming into Nigeria to cause a breach of the peace of the nation. They are therefore terrorists and should be treated as such by the Nigerian security agencies.

Fast-rising Fuji star, Mudashiru Ajani, popularly known as Safejo Amama, has said that against widespread belief, musicians who sing the genre are not miscreants.

The artiste, who recently returned to Nigeria after a long sojourn in the United States of America where he had been promoting his music and brand to the international community, told Saturday Beats in a recent chat that as a young ambassador of the genre, he was committed to changing the perception a lot of persons have about Fuji singers being hooligans and never-do-wells in the society.

The song, Wait for me, by Onyeka Onwenu and King Sunny Ade, would remain evergreen and of course, many years ago, so many people believed that the duo would have had one or two things going on between them for them to have released such song.

However, KSA, as Sunny Ade is fondly called, during a press parley on his 70th birthday, said there was nothing between him and the Elegant Stallion, Onyeka.

According to KSA, the song was just a gimmick to drive home a message for a healthy relationship among the youth back then.

“I didn’t have any crush on Onyeka then. Even before that song, we had recorded some songs together. She was (and still is) just a colleague. She is a good woman. We did that song just for us to teach the young people the essence of having a healthy relationship,” he said.

And even at the moment, KSA, who has many wives, said he is not ready to take another.

When Nigerian rap legend, Mode 9, announced that his latest project, ‘Insulin,’ would be his last album released in Nigeria, some thought he was joking while others believed the veteran rap artiste was about to hang his boot and retire from music.

However, while chatting with Saturday Beats, Mode 9 said that he was sticking to his decision and that he was no longer releasing albums on the shores of Nigeria.

He also debunked insinuations that he was retiring from music.

He said, “After this last album, ‘Insulin,’ I am done releasing albums in Nigeria. I purposely did not make too much noise about this album, I just released it and those who appreciate it have been giving me positive feedback. I don’t know if I would release more albums but I am very certain that I would not release any other album in Nigeria. I can release my album somewhere else but not here in Nigeria.

Xavier Veilhan to Represent France at 2017 Venice Biennale

Nicholas Forrest of Artinfo reports that Xavier Veilhan will represent France in the 2017 Venice Biennale. The announcement was made by Audrey Azoulay, France’s minister of culture and communication, and Jean-Marc Ayrault, the minister of foreign affairs and international development.
Veilhan, who lives and works in Paris, is a sculptor who works in a variety of media, but is most well known for his angular, figurative works in metal.
Veilhan was chosen for his Merzbau Musical proposal, an homage to Kurt Schwitters’s proto-installation work Merzbau, which was created in his Hanover home between 1923–37, but was eventually destroyed due to an Allied bombing during World War II. Veilhan’s work will be a recording studio with various kinds of musical instruments, some made specifically for the project.
The commissioners for French pavilion are the Swiss critic, publisher, and historian Lionel Bovier, and artist Christian Marclay.

Artists Space Leaves Greene Street Location after Twenty-Three Years

The executive director and curator of Artists Space, Stefan Kalmár, announced yesterday that the nonprofit exhibition space will be leaving its current location at Thirty-Eight Greene Street, which it has occupied for the last twenty-three years, after the closing of artist Lukas Duwenhögger’s retrospective, which ends June 5, 2016.
Artists Space negotiated a buyout of its lease due to their landlord’s plans for a penthouse renovation. Though a new location has not yet been found, Artists Space will continue with its programming at Artists Space Books & Talks at Fifty-Five Walker Street.
Artists Space, along with several other arts organizations—Light Industry, Electronic Arts Intermix, Anthology Film Archives, Bidoun, Printed Matter, Danspace Project, Storefront for Art and Architecture, ISSUE Project Room, The Kitchen, Primary Information, Participant Inc, Recess, Sculpture Center, White Columns, and Triple Canopy—are working with a group of art historians, activists, and collectives on an exhibition which will analyze the repercussions of gentrification in New York since 2000.
